Nyahururu — Thomson's Falls: Named after the 74-metre waterfall on the Ewaso Ng'iro River discovered by Joseph Thomson in 1883. The region's high-altitude plateau, fertile volcanic soils, and reliable rainfall drew European settlers and became one of the most coveted corners of colonial Kenya.

Dr. Walter Lowi — A Colonial Pioneer: A Jewish physician who fled Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia during World War II, Dr. Lowi navigated through South Africa before settling in Thomson's Falls. He established one of the first medical practices in the region, farmed near Ol Jabet in the White Highlands, and at times served as police pathologist. Known for his warmth, he kept drinks for all his guests, though he neither smoked nor drank himself.

Voices from the Past — Mwai's Story: Kaluma came from Nyeri to Laikipia where his family worked in European farms. His son Mwai, now over 87 and living in Lariak, Laikipia County, worked for Dr. Lowi for over 40 years from the early 1950s. Dr. Lowi helped educate Mwai's children to High School and shielded his workers during the Mau Mau uprising.

A Lasting Legacy: Dr. Lowi passed on in 1990, leaving two children. He was cremated with his ashes buried beneath the Pondo tree on the resort grounds. Books in Afrikaans found in his estate trace his journey from Central Europe through South Africa to the Kenyan highlands. His clinic-cum-colonial home stands as a living monument to Nyahururu's heritage.
